About GitStreak
Ever have that gut-punch moment
when you lose a streak?
Yeah, me too.
GitStreak was born from a moment of frustration when I lost my GitHub contribution streak.
Not because I didn’t code, but because I simply forgot to sync.
It was the weekend and without my trusty Deskhub displaying my contribution graph on my office desk, it completely slipped my mind.
While I wouldn’t say I was heartbroken (that’s a bit dramatic), it was definitely a facepalm moment.
As someone who thrives on daily challenges and building new habits, I’ve learned that sometimes we all need a friendly nudge.
That’s exactly what I love about Duolingo — it keeps me accountable with timely reminders.
So I thought, “Why not create the same for fellow developers?”
GitStreak is exactly that: a simple email reminder service that helps you maintain your GitHub streak.
No bells, no whistles — just a friendly ping when you need it.
And the best part?
If you’ve already committed that day, we’ll stay quiet and let you bask in your productivity, keeping your inbox clutter-free.
Special thanks to Jonah Lawrence (@DenverCoder1) whose “Streak Stats” repository provided invaluable insights into utilizing the GitHub API for contribution tracking. His work laid the foundation for GitStreak’s contribution counting functionality.
Meet the Streak Keeper
Michael Cyger
Founder, GitStreak
My entrepreneurial journey began after a decade in corporate America.
Over the course of a couple of years of nights and weekends, I built iSixSigma.com into an award-winning B2B media company serving over 600,000 monthly readers.
After selling it in 2007, I embraced semi-retirement and decided to better understand the fascinating (and opaque) world of domain names.
This curiosity led me to create DomainSherpa, the industry’s leading educational platform and video/audio podcast series.
Passionate about sharing the knowledge I was learning and applying, I then founded DNAcademy to help others master domain name investing.
Following a year of employment and DNAcademy’s successful rebuild and integration into GoDaddy’s Domain Discount Club, I’ve returned to my preferred state of semi-retirement — though clearly not too retired to start GitStreak!
Industry Recognition
I’ve been honored with for contributions to domain industry education and community building in many ways:
- Lonnie Borck Memorial Award (2021) – The domain industry’s highest honor for exceptional community contribution
- Domain Name Hall of Fame Inductee (2014)
- Multiple “Best Domain Blog” awards (2012-2014)
- Developer of the Year (2013, 2016)
What’s Next?
Started in 2024 and continuing into 2025, I’m challenging myself with daily exercise, language learning, and coding (with a little help from AI).
When I’m not building GitStreak or maintaining my various streaks, you might find me tinkering with new projects or exploring ways to make developers’ lives a bit easier.
Remember: Sometimes the smallest tools make the biggest difference.
Here’s to keeping those green squares coming! 🚀
